As you probably already know, video can be an essential and effective tool for fundraising, recruiting, training, outreach, education and public relations. But, by combining video and the internet, an invaluable opportunity exists to create an even greater awareness of your important issues. However, the perception about using these new media tools is that they’re too expensive, too complicated or too time intensive. We’re here to change those perceptions. Pegasus Productions can help you navigate this new world.

Nothing moves like a good story told by the people who are passionately involved in its cause. Most nonprofits have great stories to tell, but what will motivate your best supporters to give their money and time? What messages resonate in your community and how can you amplify these messages? We will work with you to answer those questions and then, using our production and storytelling skills, create a message that engages your audience. The video can be re-purposed for websites, email campaigns, social networks, events and traditional donor stewardship activities. Public service announcements (PSAs) for distribution to traditional broadcast media can also be produced.

Another idea? Short stories. Ideally placed on your home page and changed frequently, our ‘short stories’ are 2-3 minutes ‘feel good’ videos profiling a personal story told by staff or a client. We can setup accounts and upload videos to YouTube, Vimeo and other similar “viral” sites.

We’ll consult with you to develop a media strategy, and if necessary, work with your web developer to implement the online part of that strategy. Of course not all media needs to be produced professionally. We’ll train your staff or volunteer how to document your organization’s activities and create a media library that may be reused and re-purposed for years to come.

This last couple of months has seen the loss of two very special people. In December I was saddened to learn of the passing of Sandra Ellis-Troy. Sandra was a charming soul whom I had the pleasure of working with on several New Village Arts Theatre videos. As an ensemble member at NVA, I’d also seen a number of her outstanding performances in the last few years. More on Sandra at New Village Arts.

LeRoy Grannis, 93, was featured in our award winning documentary “The Art of Surfing”. LeRoy was a noted photographer “whose widely printed images captured and popularized the surf culture of California as it exploded in the 1960s and ’70s”. A few years back LeRoy moved up to Huntington Beach to be with family so I had pretty much lost touch with him. At the beginning of this month I came across the sad news in the LA Times. http://lat.ms/ejdVZN

Top Honors at the Fallbrook Film Festival

“The Art of Surfing: Carlsbad” recently captured top honors at the Fallbrook Film Festival. Competing with a number of short documentaries from around the world, the program, co-produced and directed by Ric Shellhammer and Ken Kebow, was awarded the “Best Documentary Short” at the Festival. In addition to the most recent recognition, it previously won a prestigious Silver Telly Award.

“The Art of Surfing: Carlsbad” covers the history of the coastal city from 1950 until the present day. The documentary features over 17 interviews including Surfer’s Journal Steve Pezman, legendary photographer LeRoy Grannis, Boogey Board inventor Tom Morey and many other surfing notables.

Not only a program for surfers, the half-hour show takes a look at the beaches and coastal lifestyle over the last half century in Carlsbad and provides insight as to how living along our beautiful coastline has evolved and changed.
